Checklist for BIS CRS Registration Certificate
The checklist for the BIS CRS registration certificate is as follows:
Location-Based BIS CRS Registration
The first thing that an applicant for BIS CRS registration must keep in mind is to provide the locations of
their factory, the scope of the products, and their purpose or use. The unique registration number provided
as a result will only be used for the given specified location
Separate Application for Each Brand
It is important to note that each product has to apply for a separate BIS CRS certification unless the brand
name is the same. As per the scheme, different brands are required to be registered separately.
Common Test Report
The scheme permits a common test report for multiple brands if the product and manufacturing location are the
same. The report must include all brand names with their respective model numbers and have separate product
labels for each brand to ensure clarity.
Testing in BIS Recognized Labs Only
As per the BIS scheme, products must be tested in a BIS-recognized laboratory to obtain BIS CRS
certification. However, the testing duration depends on the laboratory's workload and the technical
specifications of the product.
Display of BIS CRS Mark
After obtaining the BIS registration certificate, the applicant or the manufacturer must not forget to
display the standard ISI mark along with the unique R-Number in the product or packaging or both. Moreover,
for products with a display screen, the BIS also provides an e-labelling facility.

How to Get a BIS CRS Certificate?
The step-by-step guide to secure a BIS CRS Certificate-
Register on the BIS Portal
At first, the applicant needs to register in the BIS official portal either by himself or through an
authorized Indian representative. This is the most important step, as it allows the manufacturer to initiate
the online application process for obtaining CRS certification.
Obtain a Testing Request from BIS Approved Lab
After registering on the portal, the applicant must request a BIS-approved lab to test their product. They
need to select a BIS-approved laboratory to proceed with the BIS CRS registration.
Submission of Sample of Testing
After generating the test request, the applicant will receive a QR code, which must be displayed and pasted
on the product sample or package. The sample must then be submitted to the selected BIS-approved laboratory
within 60 days.
Online Application for BIS CRS Certification
Next, the applicant must submit an online application for BIS CRS certification using Form I and upload all
the required documents, including the test report, which must be no older than 90 days from the application
date. To complete the process, the prescribed fees must be paid, after which an acknowledgement receipt will
be sent to the applicant’s registered email ID.
Submission of hard copies of application & documents
After successfully submitting the online application, the applicant must send hard copies of the application
form and supporting documents to the BIS office within 15 days. These documents include the BIS-approved
test report, product specifications, and other relevant paperwork. If the hard copies are not received
within the 15-day deadline, BIS may close the application.
Examination of BIS CRS Registration Application
At this stage, BIS officials review the hard copies of the application and thoroughly evaluate the submitted
documents and information. They check whether the product meets BIS standards. Any queries related to the
application will be raised online.
Grant of BIS CRS Registration Certificate
Once the application is approved and the results are satisfactory, BIS authorities will grant the BIS CRS
Certificate. The applicant or manufacturer can then use the BIS mark on their product and legally sell it in
the Indian market.
