BIS Certification – An Overview

BIS registration certification is a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for products that meet the applicable Indian standards. While BIS certification is voluntary for manufacturers, the government of India has made it mandatory for certain products to ensure public health and safety. BIS registration acts as a third-party assurance of a product’s quality, safety, and reliability.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is India’s National Standards Body, established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, and operates under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. BIS is involved in various activities, such as product certification, standard formulation, testing, hallmarking, and calibration schemes.

Although BIS registration certification is voluntary, the government encourages it as it helps safeguard public health, ensures quality, prevents hazardous products, and ultimately boosts consumer confidence.
